Fascinating, unnerving, intimate and thought provoking. I felt sorry for the husband and father who had been lied to and disregarded while he tried to believe the lie. The mother was incredibly self serving and to have the true father at the dinner table knowing the lie was an insult to the father who had given his life to raising a child that was not his. Lacey is a kind and forgiving person and her conversation with her "adopted" father was profound. His honesty made up for the mothers lies. I don't think it was right to sit her in the front row of her biological fathers funeral so quickly after her discovery, again the mother seemed self serving all the way. It's easy to say "what choice did she have?" She had a job: she had a choice. Many single mothers take responsibility for their actions....she could have given her husband a choice but she took the away from him. She was a coward who took advantage of a mans good nature. She was very lucky that Lacey had his influence growing up because without it I doubt the forgiveness would be there at the same level. As for the relatives..... horrible family lies which were most probably gossiped about - her cousin was real and her first boyfriend ..... fascinating...... the denial kept the family together until it couldn't any more. It's always difficult growing up in a bubble. Definitely recommend its an interesting piece on secrets and the race piece equally multilayered. SO important to understand who you are and where you come from and eventually where you "belong"..... Highly recommend. I hope she can continue her film making skills with other peoples stories.
