The quality of this book is just incredible. It's quite rare to find a book that had full-colour illustrations unless it's ridiculously overpriced or made for children who can't read properly and understand the book mainly via pictures. The paper is pure white and doesn't even have a slight shade of yellow. The analogies are clever and help in understanding along with the summaries at the end of each chapter.
But not all the analogies are good. At a certain point, Detmer is just adding analogies for the sake of putting analogies rather than to make the topic clearer. For example, when Detmer is talking about antigen presentation. Basically, the Dendritic cell collects small bits of bacteria and presents them to a Helper T cell in order to activate. For this to work, the antigen had to be loaded onto a Major Hispatobility Complex Class II (MHC2) or the Helper T won't get activated.
Simple, right? Well, Detmer went on to compare the antigen to sausages and the MHC2s to hot dog buns. How does that even help? It doesn't even sense, the cells don't even eat the antigens.
Other than that, the book is incredible. Looking forward to a new book
