Anise Kim

This show is grossly overhyped, in my opinion. It’s a typical, basic anime that doesn’t do anything remarkable and sticks to annoying clichés, boring characters, and an entire lack of chemistry. The 13 episodes are rushed and the “romantic” relationships feel as if they’re forced upon characters. There’s nothing to cry about either (and don’t say I’m being heartless because I can literally cry over anything of *good* substance.) Overall, a cheesy and underwhelming anime that I wouldn’t recommend to anyone.

Weathering with You is a charming film, with stunningly detailed animation and an equally beautiful score. Whenever light pours into the perpetually dreary city of Tokyo, it’s a visual feast for the eyes. The story of the Sunshine Girl is well-executed and I like how they didn’t try to explain how Hina's magic works… it’s simply there. But I do have complaints. For one, the characters weren’t very compelling to me—especially compared to the ones in Your Name. What could have been explored wasn’t, such as Hodaka's life in his hometown or Hina having to become the family's breadwinner. Hodaka and Hina's relationship was cute, but nothing remarkable. Because of that, I had a hard time believing Hodaka would do so much on the hope of seeing Hina again. He resisted arrest on numerous occasions, held police officers on gunpoint (with an illegal firearm, might I add), and dragged his friends into this big mess. Then he reversed Hina's sacrifice and caused the endless downpour to continue in Tokyo. Yes, there were consequences. Hodaka was on probation and sent back to his hometown. Tokyo becomes submerged after three years of constant rain. Yet it still feels like there weren’t enough consequences. I wish the director brought to light how many people died. Like kids who fell into the water, not knowing how to swim. Or people who committed suicide. Hodaka is a kid, but a selfish one who would harm so many people and their normal lives over a CRUSH. It’s a bit ridiculous and frustrating.

When I left the movie theater, I remember not feeling any strong emotion as to whether I liked or disliked Black Widow. But afterwards, when I got to thinking more about it (+ watching videos on YouTube), I began to realize everything wrong with this film. There are no spoilers below, so proceed without worrying! The plot is definitely the worst part of the movie. I didn’t feel any sense of urgency or tension throughout the movie. The solution to the good guys’ problems was so mind-bogglingly easy and boring that it felt cheap. Plus, the villains were forgettable, with little intriguing depth to them. I was excited for Taskmaster’s potential but their character was essentially wasted. If you’re expecting a dark, espionage thriller that dives deep into Natasha’s red ledger, you’ll be sorely disappointed. I wish the rest of the film carried the same tone as the opening credits scene (which was incredible, by the way). However, it follows the typical MCU formula, with cheap laughs and unnecessary goofy moments. There is nothing remarkable about Black Widow. It’s certainly an underwhelming release, especially since it features a beloved Marvel superhero. However, it’s not 100% bad and could be a decent watch if you’re not expecting much. The acting and chemistry were excellent. Yelena is one of my new favorite characters and I’m sure you’d love her. All in all, I wouldn’t recommend this if you want your mind to be blown.

This is the best K-drama I've seen before with the perfect blend of fast-paced action, edge-of-your-seat suspense, hilarious humor, beautiful, non-cliche romance, and an intriguing story. And of course the addition to historical events and traditional culture makes it all the better. The acting is extremely good and the cinematography is just wow; the script is also very witty and well-written. I'd definitely recommend it.
