I wanted to like this show. And I only made it through 4 ¼ of the 10 episodes, so it might have some redeeming quality later on. But it is TERRIBLE.
If you're looking for a show with big monsters, look somewhere else. They're not here. They have no impact on the plot or characters and the show won't put them on the screen.
So, given that it's a show set in the Godzilla universe with maybe 60 seconds worth of Kaiju in the 1st 4 episodes, what is the show trying to do?
It seems to be trying to be a character-driven thriller and family drama. But both the thriller and family drama plotline are inane. The thing about a character-driven show is that the characters need to have coherent internal motivations, and this could not be further from the truth with Monarch: Legacy of Boredom. The writers make the characters do or say whatever is necessary to move the plot forward, with no consistency scene to scene, much less episode to episode.
Short version: don't waste your time. It's a Kaiju show with no Kaiju, or a spy show with the world's stupidest spies, or possibly a family drama where every character has suffered short term memory loss. And for all its faults it's not even fun or funny.
