Very laboured and slow moving production with many repetitive scenes. Could have been edited down to about 4 or 5 episodes without any loss of momentum or dramatic impact. Having said that the production values, sense of mystery and characterization had me gripped to the end. There were quite a few achronisms , for instance 'mental hospital' - I believe they were called lunatic asylums in the 19th century.

Can't understand why this series received so many 5 star reviews. While the acting was generally outstanding and the cinema photography of a high calibre (apart from the lighting) the script was portentous and at times utterly baffling and anachronistic 'OK' as well as being frankly risible. As for the dialogue, even with subtitles it was hard to fathom, being littered with monosyllabic exchanges that were totally bereft of any conversational realism. The plot holes were too numerous to mention. The body count and increasingly bizarre methods of execution even outdid the Texas Chainsaw Massacre! As for the romantic sub-plot it was little short of farcical with its repeated references to the stars and whimsical allusions lacking credibility given the rawness of the genre. Was it really believable that a hard bitten Indian from the wild west would have taken until the penultimate episode to make his tentative chivalric move on Cornelia bearing in mind she had rampant syphilis by that stage - as you do! No doubt this turkey will be garlanded with the usual awards by ticking all the woke boxes.
