I went into this film thinking it would more than likely be a more woke movie. This however wasn't the case. It isn't centered around a female character that is constantly told she can't do something because she is a female, nor is it a film where she is superhero like and is devoid of any shortcomings. This is for all intents and purposes a grounded film that as far as science fiction goes is about as realistic as it could get from a characters perspective. The film shows her progression as a fighter, and some of the ways it does that is it shows her failures and limitations. The lion and bear scene really depict that sentiment. Now to the movie as a whole. This was surprising a very aesthetically well done movie, from the shots of and in nature, as well as the American natives clothing, housing, and weaponry. You might could go as far as to say if someone didn't know what this movie was, until the predator was shown you could convince someone this was a period piece. The choice of music and when it was inserted was also very well done. I enjoyed the pacing of the movie, and it had a solid three acts. On to the predator. I liked the design and overall potrayl of the predator. This is a young blood I would assume, so he does not have the shoulder cannon, and this could be its first solo hunt which makes the film more realistic that it could be defeated. I think this film opens up a lot of possibilities for where the franchise can go, and reset the bar after the first film, and probably saved the franchise. My only real complaint is at times the CGI did not look great, mainly dealing with the animals but this film wasn't released in theaters although it could have been so I don't believe the budget allowed for a level of CGI not seen in the film. The gore was there, you get to see some cool gadgets from the predator, quite a few action sequences, and the cast was very solid. For what this film is, and what the budget was I'd give it an 8/10. If you are a fan of predators or even just science fiction and want to see something fresh as in a native story and how they might have dealt with threats I'd definitely reccomend this film.
