Good cast. By the end it does deliver. I wanted to like it more but the things I felt brought it down were that it was too slow. In many episodes, there was sloppy police work written into the plot that made it hard to comprehend how [super smart] Cross and crew could make such sloppy mistakes, back stories that only dragged the plot or made absolutely no sense (example: the girlfriend trying to hide with her boyfriend’s phone) and it was sometimes too wholesome. Those moments really annoyed because it would make it feel like it belonged on Hallmark Mystery and not Amazon.

Incorrectly categorized as a horror movie. While parts are disturbing, I feel it is more of a psychological drama. While it plays more towards being weird and light-hearted, there is a disturbing undertone about dealing with paranoia and insecurity and misunderstanding. It may be worth a watch even with my lower star rating because it is well made, however, it’s in no way a feel good or funny movie. Also, none of the characters are really likable. In the end you’re left with a lot of questions about why the friends did what they did.

It’s watchable in a telenovela sort of way. Outlandish plot and acting. Great cast that was mostly miscast. I can only assume the story looked better on paper, but was directed very sloppy. I was able to get to the end because I kept wanting to know what was going on and how was it going to be handled. It is loosely categorized as a thriller but was more just a mystery drama. Interesting to see Simon Pegg in a role completely different than anything you’d expect. Watch it with a bunch of friends during a pizza and wine night so you can all talk back to screen and laugh and gasp at all the weirdness.

Don’t be drawn in by the ‘Horror’ category this movie seems to always get bunched into. Yeah, there’s a monster, but it’s more of a ‘Dark Comedy (Dramedy?)’ kind of film. This is an Independent film. t’s about relationships, love, and a monster. It’s also brilliant and I am now a forever fan of Jeremy Gardener. A man whose resume is quite extensive so I think I’ll now have a lot to watch and explore. It’s hard to dislike this film, and if you do, or have, shame on you.

My stars are low because overall the film is dull, and easily could have been much shorter. If you bore easily, or hate art films totally skip this one. HOWEVER, it is a very good film and premise, so may be worth checking out as a film to study. For everyone else, let me just give a minor spoiler (it will not affect your viewing), then watch it. It is more interesting having that perspective. Something evil has taken over a home. We are then given the perspective from the very small, young children as things play out. They can’t reach light switches, understand anything, make sense of all of it. It’s a slow torturous burn with dark imagery, confused and scared kids you mostly only hear, sounds that get under your skin, and more that will make more sense as the movie progresses. If you have the patience you’ll respect it. No slash, gore, jumps, action, possession…blah, blah, blah here. If it just had a little more cohesion and editing and it would be 5 stars instead of 2 from me. Big factor to me.

This was a good one! Very tense, disturbing and scary movie. Excellent atmosphere and direction, and a script that is disturbing because you almost believe it could really happen. It can be gross and violent. Subject matter not for the kiddies. Some dark humor. The cast was perfect. A star removed for some holes in plot, and some over-the-top moments, but this is common with horror films. Also, the director made a bad choice in second half making the evil too unrealistic. That why I said ‘almost’ in my first paragraph. Still a fun ride.
