Good lord, what a great first season it was. The ending was hysterically funny. The writing - particularly the style of dialogue - is superb. The characters address each other by name with some frequency, particularly the Texas Ranger and the uncle. I loved following the patter - it revealed the characters well and slowly moved the plot with each encounter. It had tension and humor at the same time. There was not one moment in all 10 episodes that I was distracted. I am so looking forward to the next season. It is a brilliant show. Thank you EPIX., for this show as well as Get Shorty. (I haven't checked out "Patriot" on Netflix but see the same writer's name associated with it, so it is on my list.)

Thought the writing was excellent and acting uniformly good. The premise of super human powers possessed by some people and harnessed by an intelligence service is, of course, ridiculous. However, most of Shakespeare's plays were preposterous stories but written to illuminate the human condition. I think The Rook, while not Shakespearean as was the brilliant Breaking Bad, is written in a way that brings out emotions such as trust, envy, betrayal, frailty, self-doubt and determination in a way that allows for the suspension of disbelief required of any fictional work. I look forward to a Season 2 and hope there is one. Otherwise, I'll feel betrayed and won't trust anything again.
