Although I do like to hear out negative opinions on varying forms of art, I have to respectfully and STRONGLY disagree with the negative opinions people have had in some reviews. There was a certain degree of terror delivered that differed from so many of the absolute let down and disgraceful horror films I have seen in the past several years.
The utter depth and attention to detail is quite impressive and I would argue masterful. The "hidden and scary creature/monster" and jump scare mechanics in many horror films, albeit present to some capacity, is a far cry from what the objective this film aims to achieve. Familial issues that could be analyzed for hours, a sense of mystery that causes unusual intrigue and a lack of clarity and direction that does not work AGAINST the film's progression, on the contrary, I feel it plays to its strengths.
The unpredictability and themes portrayed during this film had my mind swirling with thought for weeks to come and its a shame that it isn't held in higher esteem. I think we've placed genre for films in a tight box and this film to many capacities challenged that, although more clearly "horror" based than Midsommar. Give it a watch and make your own opinion!
