I have loved all of Flanagan's Netflix specials, sorry to say this one fell flat for me. He maintains his ability to create fully fleshed-out characters that you fall in love with, but the overarching plot felt hollow and incomplete. I slowly started checking out of the extra stories told in the midnight club, to the point where I actively skipped over them because they weren't that riveting and I just wanted to know what was going on in the main plot. I could see the JJ reveal coming a mile away. While this had the same great Flanagan spooky vibe, I wish I could say the story packed the same punch as Hill House, Bly, or Midnight Mass. The acting was fantastic though! A good series if you like exploring themes of mortality, survival, and friendship, but lacking as a thriller/ horror/ ghost story.
