What people don't understand is that this show is meant to feel slow. It is meant to appear dull and unexciting. It is a show used to express that not everyone will or would use their final days to do something extravagant or daring. Some of us would rather try and go back to that routine, to that daily schedule we were so used to in our daily lives, and which to characters such as Carol and those in The Distraction, felt satisfying and as if they were truly living out their last days the best way possible because, in the end, it was Carol who brought those human interactions and feelings together to realize that you're sad not because you didn't do what you always wanted to do, but because the connections you've made will slowly die out and you along with it. Carol and the end of the world is a beautiful representation of the regular person and is a comfort to people such as myself who cherish the need and enjoyment of human connections and interactions and the quietness of it all while doing things in between that appear exciting but which, at the end of the day, are regular things some of us would do and, once again, just completely and utterly human and my god, do I relate to Carol and love her whole heartedly. She is truly a comfort.
