I want to preface this as - simply put, EA did everything in their power to try and hide legitimate criticism from being used against the critics of this game.
This is NOT a Dragon Age game, this isn't the beloved RPG with the same nuanced writing we are familiar with nor the same dark fantasy aspects we were familiar with and accustom to within this franchise.
What we have instead is a heavy handed approach to speaking deliberately and down upon those who do not tow the political line. Every 5 Star Review will label you as "incel", "chud", but that doesn't invalidate the issues this game clearly has. The writing reminds me of a children episode spoken towards a better lesson learned, preaching on the value of "sharing" and "understanding".
Simply put - the writing is not up to the task on selling a fantasy world at the precipice of the End of the World Scenario. We are instead more focused on apology methods of how to talk about mis-using pronouns. This was a legit 3 minute scene, for a character who I did not agree with. If diversity is what it preaches, then how come I cannot counter any of their points in game play either? Is the commentary so fragile that it asks us to simply swallow the narrative?
Bioware before asked us to challenge our own values and morals and then reflect on those consequences when the cards laid down, fighting against a world that often tests the mettle of our convictions. Instead I get preached on by individuals who are so sensitive, immature, and unequipped to handle the nuances of actual discussion. I wanted this game to be good, more so than any "tourist" label thrust upon myself. But -instead I'm told to shut up and listen. I say no. Not anymore.
