I love Dr. G! I have been a board member for AFSP. I just watched an episode about a suicide victim. I wanted to reach out because I have learned that to help change the stigma, we need to start with our words. Saying the term “commit suicide,” has a negative and criminal undertone. For instance…people commit crimes. If you change your words to….died by suicide…it’s a more compassionate and has less room for judgement. Hearing…I can’t believe he committed suicide….(how dare he) vs….oh my God, he died by suicide…(he was in suffering)…I hope to make a difference in every way….and for everyone who hasn’t heard…the new MEMORABLE suicide prevention hotline 988 will be up and running by summer 2022. I fought for that change at the state capital and called the fcc myself to push for this mental health 911. I am a survivor of suicidal longings for years…for now… it is the second leading cause of death for our youth. Please call. 800.2.73.82.55 or text 741-741. God bless and help this crazy sad world.
