I grew up working in a movie theatre, so I have an idea what works. Rotten Tomatoes got this wrong. The Time Travelers wife is excellent. I wasn’t a fan of the movie. The story was presented in a disjointed incomprehensible way. In the HBO version, the jumps never confuse me. *Rose Leslie’s reaction and her mix of emotions on meeting Henry for the first time was brilliantly conveyed. Sometimes the dialog lifts from the ordinary into the air of heady elegance. Note: 26 year old Henry

One of the best series I have ever seen. This reminds me of the shows done by Michael Landon, but a step above.

Usually if I love a series it gets canceled. Another great unrealized vision.

The actors read their lines like Jack Webb on Dragnet minus the emotion.

This is the type of movie that reveals itself in layers. The movie itself is just the opening page of discovery. Jane Champion’s script is genius in its ability to understand the limits of her audiences ability to follow the psychological underpinnings without getting lost in the details. Phil is a man created by his long dead mentor. He hides his homosexuality and feminine nature and tendencies with rough words and action. He talks crudely to his brother to hide unnatural feelings. He resents his brothers new wife because he likes his brother close, and cannot sleep without his brother in his bed. He feels a kinship with his sister in laws son and wants to eradicate the negative things that he sees in himself. Phil is not as complicated as his rough exterior would seem to suggest. It turns out that his sister in laws son is the true psychopath.

Who can blame the studios for the endless mind numbing super hero movies? They make money, lots of money. The object of a studio is to make money, not good pictures. I understood the craze in the beginning. Wolverine was an edgy anti hero. He was a major departure from Superman, who was driven by his altruistic nature. Superman was a one dimensional character, Wolverine driven by his demons was multifaceted, like his human counterparts. He was complicated and unpredictable. That’s the kind of movies I enjoy: movies with a sense of wonderment and discovery. Movies as unpredictable as human nature.

A preposterous set of circumstances unfold after a hit and run, where everything that can go wrong does go wrong, even if it is unlikely or impossible. Then add unforseen and detrimental truths that Marr the road and you get Your Honor.

I love this show, but let’s be honest, John Dutton is not very good at being a rancher. He loses over 6 million a year. He could have sold it for generational wealth but would rather play at being a rancher. That’s poor judgment.

They should have stopped the story of King Kong after the 1939 movie. The older directors knew how to tell a suspenseful and engaging story. Even considering the primitive film making techniques of the thirties that early film is still the best
