I have read about 90% Alexander McCall's books and enjoyed them thoroughly. However, this book has been difficult to read as it rambles on and on with people's thoughts, which could have been fun or interesting but instead is very, very boring and monotonous. The constant referral to how Scotland should be acknowledged gets to also be monotonous. Isabel and friends become one vast boring narrative. 😴 A really lack luture ramble. No final happiness for Isabel. The audio version on Audible is really unprofessional with constant noise in the background. Do not recommend on any level.

Fabulously funny, a tonic for the present times. Brilliant irony and clever insights into social history. In summing up then, cleverly written and very funny.
