The acting and faithfulness to the original material was amazing. Most of the action sequences were beautifully done. You really believe that these people and places could exist in our world. Episodes 3, 4 and 7 were particularly good. The special effects, at times, left some things to be desired but I assume that is because of the budget. I will say, 8 was a bit of a confusing disappointment. No, you do not have to read the books or play the games to enjoy the series, but I will say it does help. Let the world unfold for you.
