Being a fan can't help overlook the flaws of this movie. I think many of the ratings that are high, 4 or 5, are from people that enjoyed the movie, but much of the praise is because of wanting something while being cooped up for the last year. This isn't to say the film was bad, only lacking.
The story is rushed. It had a good start with introducing Hanzo and I felt as though it might be similar to the animated version recently released. Instead, after the intro, we see a flurry of info and fighters thrown in one after another. Some are very new characters in regard to the overall time MK has existed and I think many are not going to know who they are.
The acting, for what little we see, is good. The problem is, again, no real story except the basic premise with a few details thrown in. There was a real chance to have more info and character interaction.
Fight scenes, special abilities, graphics, all really good for the most part. Some pretty cheesy stuff given how the film was portrayed with a large sense of realism.
Overall, it was basically the same thing we saw from the original film redone for the modern era. If you don't have a chance to watch, you aren't missing anything. If you do watch, it's not the worst film you could pick.
