Freddy the Fazbear vs Freddy the Man
Everyone knows Freddy is scary as heck. But who knows what he's feeling? Who knows why he haunts children? And why do we think of him as terrifying as we think of the mysterious (nonexistent?) Purple Guy? Perchance. I believe it was Nietzsche who said "He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster." Freddy exhibits monstrosity by killing kids all night, but he exhibits humanity by singing songs. Keep it up, baby!
When Freddy leaves his place of safety to jumpscare a guard, he knows that he may fail. And yet, for a bear who can revive endlessly, a death becomes a mere inconvenience. A setback that can be overcome, much as a gamer feels any challenge with a retry button. We think of Freddy as a villain, but he is simply a victim of a more tragic variety. The soulkind. Perchance.
