The Mayfair Witches is my favorite Anne Rice trilogy. The copies of my books are read and re-read until pages have fallen out and it has become necessary for me to purchase new copies. I have always wanted to see this story adapted to either the big screen (with multiple movies) or the small screen. When I heard that it was finally happening, I was thrilled; when I watched the first episode I was deflated.
Not only is this "production" miscast, but the writing is subpar at best. I certainly understand what a tremendous challenge it is to write a screenplay from a beloved novel, but may I suggest that the writers first read, in its entirety, that novel. Characters that are pivotal to the plot and storyline are "morphed" into a single new character or dropped completely.
The first eight episodes of this series can only be described as a nightmare masquerading as a fever-dream. If you don't have the time to sit and read the books, do yourself a favor and download and listen to them. I promise you will not regret it, the way that I regret signing up for an AMC+ subscription just so I could watch this trainwreck.
