The cultural backdrop is what sets this complicated mystery apart.
One feels like an insider to the Navajo experience of pain and racism as the series unfolds.
The story can be a bit hard to follow at times because the rules it plays by are often unfamiliar. Leaphorn has the job of enforcing law and protecting people amidst his own set of issues from the past. And everything is touched by his Navajo culture.
There are often strings that seem to be left untied, but satisfy their own form of justice.
The acting is excellent.
