Chris Rock is much more talented than this film allows. However, while the film has an almost hackneyed premise, CR pulls it together...often. As the somewhat weak story starts to gain traction, you are pulled in. And then, the "SAW" franchise takes hold. This is where a viewer either walks away, or cannot. I could not. The ending? Yes. No. YESSS! NOOOOOO!
In the final analysis, one to ten? Well, no Academy nominations. But not a toss-away.
Chris Rock shows as a convincing dramatic personage.
Watch it till the end. When you do, If you don't think, OUT LOUD, "What the hell just happened?" then you left the TV running when you left the room for another cocktail, or took a bathroom break, or checked to see if your doors were locked...
