I grew up watching the Jurassic Park films and was content with the last two Jurassic World movies. Dominion had a lot of potential considering that the whole plot was based on dinosaurs living alongside humanity and the old cast being reintroduced. Dominion however was just so disappointing. It lacked buildup and jumped around way too much. The dinosaurs were given little to no marination as well if that makes any sense. The part of what makes the old Jurassic Park movies so good is the element of fear and not knowing what the creatures are capable of. Dominion completely lacked this aspect. The movie was just soft and plain. The old cast also seemed out of aspect as well. Maybe it’s just the element of nostalgia but the old actors just didn’t blend well. It felt as if they were just thrown together into a poorly thought story with the new cast. We were all waiting for Dr. Grant to have his scenes like in JP1 or JP3 but those edge on your seat scenes just never came. It’s quite disappointing as they attempted to introduce a variety of new species but the execution was just very poor. There was no science or buildup like there was for the old animals in the previous movies like the raptors or indominous. Most people know nothing about Quetzalcoatlus or the Therizinosaurus. New species were just thrown at us left and right. Overall, I would’ve made Dominion similar to the new rise of the planet of the apes movies in a post apocalyptic north america where humanity is trying to survive a new era of dominion. Introducing the old cast as survivors would’ve made much more sense. The biggest problem for me though was the kills! Nobody with importance died and it wasn’t gory or horrifying like in the old films. There were no sacrifices or even jaw dropping carnivore moments. It was just chomp you’re done. But i guess that’s what gives the old films their magic. They instilled fear into us and made us respect nature. I guess the Jurassic World movies were just made to be way too family friendly.
