I still remember when I heard Colour By Numbers, the second album by Culture Club for the first time. I was enthralled by Boy George's voice, the melodies, and instrumentation - all of which seemed so fresh in 1983. The album captured a sort of romanticism and melancholy that mirrored my own teen angst. Karma Chameleon became an instant hit and seemed to be a bit of an outlier on the album, the rest of which was emotional and dramatic. Helen Terry's background vocals on Church of the Poison Mind opened a new world for me. This is one of my favorite "chapters" in the soundtrack of my life.
