Let me start by saying this is a remarkable game and easily game of the year for me. That being said there are a few things about this game that didn’t quite meet the standards of GOW 2018 and now that I play this game to a platinum trophy I can give an accurate review. Let’s start with the combat, it was just as good if not better than the previous game. They kept the structure of the combat the same while adding a few new elements to keep it fresh.. however, the combat has a few bugs and annoying ones at that. For example, the lock on system is completely screwed. I lost count at the times I died in game bc I was locking on to random enemies in the background instead of focusing on the enemy in front of me… this caused my character to punch and swing my weapons in the air trying to hit an enemy that is 10 feet away instead of hitting the enemy that is 5 inches in front and ready to strike me down. Another disappointing aspect of the game was in the story telling. I will try not to spoil anything but the game story left so many things unanswered or they never explain how things came to be (spoiler: I’m talking about the mask and the rift). The story had a nice pace throughout but felt very rushed towards the end. The writing of the story in GOW 2018 was flawless and most importantly it had direction. The story of GOW ragnarok was great but it is in the details that it fell very short by not answering the questions that the story brings and rushing to the finish line without much excitement in the end.
