Disappointing. While the underwater scenes and new creatures were very enjoyable, the first half of the film was essentially a remake of the first movie. Same tropes - same plot lines… son tries to ride a creature he’s bonded with and gets thrown off… exactly like his dad did in A1… etc.. As well, the dialogue was simply awful, and the characters, two dimensional. Also, fans are tired of the A1 villain… time for a new one. All in all, they had a VERY long time to make this movie, and this is the best story they could bring? Such a shame because we love the special effects and cool critter-native relationships. But James is undermining the beauty of his creations with abysmal B level storytelling.

Life is a horror movie in slow motion And M. Night proves it. There may be multiple flaws in the movie but the premise is sound... and terrifying. The one thing we all fear - the greatest source of grief in every life... aging and death. Accelerate it into a matter of days, and you realize the terror of our existence. The only reason we tolerate it as well as we do is because it happens so gradually. Like the proverbial frog in the slowly boiling water, we fail to notice the bone-chilling reality of our existence. Thanks M. But also F you. This movie has its brilliance... and it’s terrible, irrevocable sadness. You can pick apart the script, the special effects and the acting, and you’d be well within your right to do so. But at the end of the day, this is more than the sum of its parts. Ponder the inevitable. And take a moment to be grateful for today.
