MAJOR Saw film series fan here! Spiral was a good movie and worth watching if you enjoy the Saw films, but I don’t feel that it lived up to my expectations. Although it was a good movie, I didn’t find it was as gruesome as the previous films were. I know I’m desensitized to gore at this point, but the traps were no where near as creative as they were in previous films and they weren’t winnable as John Kramer intended for them to be. The scenes showing the traps were very short and didn’t focus on the “game” enough. In the other films, the traps were focused on and explained thoroughly, but in Spiral, they didn’t make a lot of screen time and I’m not sure why, as this is the whole plot behind Saw. I know because Kramer is dead that it wouldn’t make sense to use his voice behind the puppet in this film, but the voice was laughable and nothing creepy. Overall, it was a good movie and I do recommend watching if you do like the Saw movies, but don’t go in with the expectations of it being like the other movies. Many people said it was better than the movie before this one, “Jigsaw,” but I don’t agree. I think “Jigsaw” was better, but I did enjoy that movie unlike many.
