To be honest, this movie was a solid prison movie with a campy super-human twist. The pacing was smooth albeit a bit TOO quick, leaving you wanting a BIT more time with certain characters. I see a lot of people clowning on Bruce Willis and his less than stellar performance, citing his relatively emotionless delivery in not only this movie but referencing his performance in a few of his other recent movies. Normally, I’d be just as disappointed as everyone else watching a former action movie super star fall from grace and accepting any role thrown their way. However, I’m not sure many people know this but Bruce Willis has been diagnosed with aphasia; a language disorder caused by damage to the areas of the brain responsible for expression and comprehension. The general consensus is that he’s been taking roles in smaller movies in order to get as much money together for his eventual retirement and possibly very expensive treatment. So, that being said, I’m more willing to give him a pass and to enjoy this movie for what it is: a good time on a rainy day.
