The Road Dance has many threads to it. On one level it has been called a 'weepie' and it certainly is an emotionally affecting story. But there is more to it: this is a carefully crafted tale of ethical probings as the storyline twists and turns. The social intricacies of any small isolated community are shown with analytical economy. The denouement is a masterpiece of acting and editing.
These are universal themes, it is far more than historical Hebridean romance.
