I have to rate this movie 5 stars because how much I loved it as a kid. I had it on VHS in 1994. I watched it all the time. It made me feel things as a 5 year old. Now I watch it as a person in my 30s, there are some weird things about it. The fairy prince tries to kiss Thumbelina right away and also tries to grab her from behind. They obviously go on a date and sing the beautiful song, “Let me be your wings”. It makes you feel things. So then you fall in love with their little growing relationship after. At least it did for me. Both as a kid and an adult. I always loved the “damsel in distress” thing. After she gets kidnapped by the odd toads. Him searching for her and not giving up. It’s romantic. I personally love the whole thing with the beetle. The song. The outfit. Just so funny. Now Ms. Field mouse was super shady. Trying to force Thumbelina to marry Mr. mole. Like you got no choice girly. Your man is dead. This obviously all happens over a period of months. She probably feels like she has no choice. When she walks down the aisle to marry the mole, and she gets glimpses of the prince singing to her. Awh so cute. The music in this movie is great and the voice actors are amazing. Thumbelina is 3 of my favorite animated movies in one. Voice talent from Aladdin, the little mermaid.. and the animation art is the same as Anastasia.
