I had high hopes for this as I really like Ridley Scott's take on the future visually.
However, I'm on episode 7 now and am finding the show increasingly disappointing for multiple reasons.
1. The android's behavior and capability is not well thought out. They are constantly engaging in emotional spats that serve no purpose for "the mission" that they were given. Why would an android bother with jealousy for instance? I understand the concept of "they are programmed to have those feelings just like people". But, there are many contrary instances where they behave without emotion and even refer to their inability to have them. It just comes off that they have emotion when it's convenient for the writer.
Additionally, there are many basic capabilities that they would logically have: increased ability to hear and see and have picture perfect memory. They have super-human strength to run. But, they can't hear intruders approaching from further away than humans? They can't record and notice differences in the ground over time (in order to detect their enemies walking around their compound at night)?
2. The messaging behind the story is political, immoral (imo) and extremely heavy handed. The actors that are supposed to represent religious people might as well be cartoon characters. The story is constantly trying to push the audience into identifying with the "atheist built" android that has an apparent coded-in zeal for killing religious people and kidnapping their children.
It's basically an atheists violent fantasy that sets up a bunch of unsophisticated straw man arguments to be knocked down by the "heroes." From Ridley Scott I expect adult-level treatment of subjects. But, this feels more like it would appeal to a dorm-room religion debate. "Of course those religious jerks destroyed the planet! They should be killed and their children reprogrammed!"
3. The production value is terrible. There are times when it looks like that Star Wars Ewok TV special from the 80s. Not what I expect from a Ridley Scott production.
4. The acting is inconsistent. Travis Fimmel is especially terrible in this which is surprising as he was very good in Vikings. Amanda Collin I think is impressive in her role, to be fair. So is Abubakar Salim.
