I admire Ann Patchett's writing, and eagerly await each of her novels with her sense of believable surprise and well-drawn characters. So what happened here?
Cartoonish characters with thin personalities and often predictable actions, leading to an unbelievable end where the author attempts to tie up all the loose ends she has created-- who cares if Fluffy retires to Santa Barbara?
