This is a fabulous book with historic photographs of all 3,000 miles of the Great American Horse Race. I pulled it out and re-read it again the other summer. A friend rode in this and was awarded the key of the city to Hannibal, MO and came in 19th. It was a Grand Adventure as he would say. He had never ridden more than 30 miles in one day, but “had a burning desire to be part of it.” Tom raised the $500 entry fee and showed up in New York with his horse Jose Dante.
