Really can't believe that people think the setting "supposed to be in Leeds" or the "young people with million pound houses" was the problem. It was ludicrous absolutely ludicrous. Who would have thought that the swinging couple would turn out to be the most sensible ones, with Becks the most sensible and reasonable of all. Pete and Evie, we'll they just belonged in a secure unit, out of harms way. It was dire.

I thought this was a very good adaption. I have only read one book but seen 3 t.v. adaptations. Roy Marsden too shouty, Martin Shaw, well you can see where George Gently came from....this for me is the best. The lead actor quiet and a bit aloof and wears his sadness like a suit of armour. The seventies sets and costumes seem authentic and the length of story over two episodes just right.

I thought this was really good. Gripping, tense and mundanely shocking - in that way, it's horrible but you know toxic situations like this occur everyday - maybe not resulting in such a cataclysmic result. Kept me guessing till the end who was good who was bad, who was good then bad and vice versa. Performances, especially Maxine Peakes were all excellent and it kept me gripped throughout.

Gosh but it was bad, stereotypes galore (bratty horrible children, poor unfortunate young man with learning differences accused and beaten up by vigilantes, completely incompetent police, e.g. three initial suspects of murder/kidnap worked on the same boat and the police never searched it !!!) And the lead detective, she was just horrible, neglecting her kids, destroying evidence, using everyone around her then being horrible to them and then of course going rogue. Then the twist in the tail.......preposterous. SPOILER....the only decent, good kind character in the whole thing ends up being the murderer.

I read there was a third series starting, had heard about it in passing but never bothered. Had some time off so thought would give it a go. Ended up watching all three series in a binge watch bonanza. Just delightful, weird, poignant colourful and best of all....funny. Robin the neanderthal, will you marry me?
