Well... I love sci fi, I used to write sci fi. But this sucks.
Firstly the good bits; the actors, setting and set pieces are great, the story over all works, it feels like the story board writers had an end goal and a basic structure but no idea how to fill the journey out.
Then the bad; my main grievances are with the characters, not a single person should be allowed anywhere near a spaceship, an the writers clearly have no idea how anyone is picked to be an Astronaut, even in whatever year the show is based in. Heck places I've worked people are hired more on how well they interect and get along with other people over having an over abundance of skills, so to be hired onto a mission to to save the world you'd think they might look into how the people work together. On the back end of that, a mission to save the world, I think? I mean, they say its to save the world, but from what? Some crystal art decoration? What threat has it posed? Clearly not enough to stop people from standing 20 meters from it, heck I can imagine every scientist has tried touching it too. So the urgency of the mission makes no sense at all.
But I suppose all of this could boil down to the writing, the writing of dialogue, characters, crisis events. For characters it seems like the only ones the writers cared about and put effort into developing beyond "grrr space make angry" is Niko and Williams. With the dialogue, it's doesn't feel human, or like it was made by an AI that was forced to watch every B movie on SYFY. Then the crisis events, oh boy there is far to many of them, I get they have to make a show interesting, but the wild left turn, right turn events with even crazier resolutions is a little much.
Over all, if the writers spent as much time on the story as the casting directors did on choosing the actors and the set designers did on building the world, the show would have be epic.
