This is a lovely movie and I enjoyed it immensely. It has a great cast, is beautifully shot and I walked away from the film feeling a bit better about being a human than when I walked in.
Some of the criticisms of the film in other reviews seem to have two themes.
The first is the white man comes in and saves the day (wrong it's the other way round).
The second is that the movie is somehow pushing a trans agenda and that the trailer was misleading. I couldn't agree less. The transgender character, played by Kaimana, is a pure delight and I'm glad that I was unaware of this prior to attending the movie. Hence I consider that the trailer left this element out as it would have been a bit of a spoiler (rather than to trick anti trans or homphobic people into watching it, sheesh!).
I also walked away from the movie thinking that Samoan culture exhibits a wisdom, kindness, generosity, perseverance and happiness that we could use a lot more of in this world.
