If you've never read The Stand, watch it, you may like it. If you've read the book.. Don't bother. You'll just be annoyed. It should be called something else and in small subtext "loosely based on The Stand". There is no way Stephen King approved this new version. I don't get why so they deviated so unnecessarily from the book. Why does Larry and Rita travel through the sewer instead of the tunnel? Why is Larry a druggie? It makes no sense. Nadine Cross is described as having really long black hair which eventually turns white due to her interaction with Randall Flagg. So why in the hell is she a bleached blonde? Don't get me started on Tom Cullen. One of the most ridiculous parts of the new show is the coffee food truck?! Seriously? It's an apocalypse and someone gets a food truck running to give out coffee? 🙄.
The casting is 50/50 on both the original and the current version. Original- here is my casting list:
Best: Stu -no one can ever compare
Tom Cullen-couldn't have found a better actor to portray him exactly like the book
Larry Underwood
Glen Bateman- seriously.. Mr. Hand as Glen Bateman-was perfect casting
Randall Flagg
Worst:
Nadine Cross-acted oddly and not attractive or alouf enough
Harold Lauder -Not believable
Fran Goldsmith
New version - best:
Fran Goldsmith
Harold Lauder- love this actor's portrayal
Randall Flagg
Mother Abigail
Joe
Worst:
Nadine Cross-blonde?🙄
Tom Cullen-just embarrassing
Nick- why is he so creepy? It's off-putting
Larry Underwood. So far he's fairly boring and the drug thing bothers me so I don't like the new one.
I agree with all other reviewers- the jumping back and forth between time periods before we even know who the characters are is so annoying and awful. I hate it!!! There is so much deviation from the book I don't have enough space to write it all. I just don't get why there is so much deviation.
