I can’t say I’m too happy with this film adaptation. There were moments I enjoyed: the stunning choreography and aesthetically pleasing visuals. However, the shows desperate attempt to highlight the special effects and visuals caused a downward spiral in the plot line ( if you could even say there was one) and songs. The cast was filled with Hollywood stars who definitely were not singers, and the actual musicians (Jennifer Hudson, Jason Derulo, Taylor Swift) were either too enveloped in their characters to sing on key or were simply not given a song that fit their sound. The Cats musical was not a good production to be brought to the silver screen and no amount of famous actors, musicians, or dancers could save the disappointing film. With plot holes, uncomfortably erotic behaviour, and relevant yet simultaneously irrelevant characters, it’s hard to love this rendition of a timeless musical. The one word that I keep using to describe this film? Irrelevant.
