Came across this on SMS on demand. Must see for anyone living in Aus. Especially anyone like me who has travelled extensively in the outback, tried to set up collaborative programs to help communities or just had the culture shock and bafflement about basic things like rubbish. It should be a compulsory addition to our education curriculum.I thought I had an little understanding but this film forces you out of your complacency and Hubris. It gives such insight into the first nations perspective.
Even the format and approach of the documentary gives so much insight. Gentle, deep, and egoless. I couldn't help contrasting the style with western documentaries and thinking about how it would have been if made by anyone else.
I spent my childhood in NZ. We learnt all these things about the Maori and Polynesian culture in primary school. We felt that it was also our culture. I have always been amazed about the lack of education about the aboriginal culture in Australia.
When I arrived in Melbourne in 1972 I asked colleagues "What tribes used to live here?" No-one knew what I was talking about.
