I actually loved and enjoyed the first season quite well, but the writing for the second season I felt was quite poor. As well as the season lacked much of the satyrical comedy of the first season that helped define Velma and instead opted for poorly written sitcom humor. I think the series can endure and rebound if the series goes for a soft reboot ignoring the vast majority of new cannon introduced in this season. However, if the third season is only used to continue and recover from the poor writing of season two I suspect the series will unfortunately have no future other than being cancelled (assuming it has even been renewed for season 3).
semiSPOILERS.
Overall this season bucked long standing trends for the Scoobi Doo franchise in a very negative way; as well as had some plots that mimic season 1 in such a way that this series is already starting to feel stale. They also reduced the dimensionality of existing supporting characters more than they grew others (including the main cast) adding to the dry vibe that defines this season. The characters they introduced this season (literally new not only developed this season) fell flat and either lacked genuine development or were written so they were one note and only a tool to further an already week plot.
