This animation is ok--it's along the same vein as Castlevania in terms of visual style, and middling voice acting. The plot is fairly predictable at various points, but kudos for keeping exposition down so the audience can put together mechanics that drive the story together on our own.
Character design is also mixed--the Olympians are well fleshed out with little bits of flair hinting at which gods they are, or pieces of armor to accent their personalities. (All without introductions and *exposition* which is always a plus because it points to the writers not taking the audience for being idiots.).Meanwhile, the demons and giants are pulled straight out of a dollar store kaiju bin--maybe they spent all their money on the lightning bolt CGI for Zeus, and only had enough budget left to afford dressing the bad guys in shades of grey with some red highlights.
The voice acting is also very unbalanced. At some parts, the familial dynamics can be felt through melancholy vocals and notes of sorrow, while at other times it sounds like you're listening to the recording of a middle schooler being randomly tasked to read an excerpt from Macbeth during PE.
As this is being billed as an adult anime, they should focus more on the acting, story, and maybe realizing that hardcore animated gore jumped the shark back in the '90s after classics like Beserk hit the scene. If you're trying to market ultraviolence to folks 3 decades later, maybe be a bit more creative with your fatalities, yanno? (You can only show so many quick pans of a flying bident blood explosion before it gets old). Maybe give us some coronal bisections and mix it up with some bludgeoning, or pimple-popping-heads if 90% of your content focuses on people getting cut in half at the waistline.
With this anime season being pretty lackluster, Blood of Zeus is worth a watch. If it were released alongside knockout titles like Amazon's Vinland Saga and Dororo, I'd say take a hard pass unless you really like watching slightly different looking red shirts yell while dying in the same ways over and over.
