what made the original matrix movie so captivating was its totally unique storyline and the special effects set in a fast paced visual splendor. the newest matrix movie simply references all of the most iconic scenes from the previous films (save the car chase) there are even a few lackluster direct scene-for-scene references that begin as cathartic but ultimately feel like cheap filler necessary for a story without its own identity as they start to pile up throughout the movie. Matrix Resurrection sloppily hopes to satisfy an audience by re-hashing previously successful storyline ideas and not much else. you aren't left wondering where the story is going but instead knowing that it has been over and asking why you wasted the time.
