Perspective of someone who watched the anime: After the first episode, I don’t think this is a faithful adaptation. It doesn’t feel like the same world, despite directly lifting some of the same elements. They fundamentally changed the purpose and character of the parasytes. The anime, though gory, was also cerebral and thought provoking. This show is not that. It- like many Korean tv shows- substitutes sensationalism where the anime was subtle. I’d say the show is more like Invasion of the Body Snatchers than Parasyte. I’m sure the show will be perfectly enjoyable for someone who didn’t watch the anime. If you watched the anime for the gore and not the existentialism, you’ll probably be okay with this adaptation, too.
