Gunjan Saxena - The story which every girl in a male dominated environment will relate to.
A lot of people especially insensitive males and bimbo females who have no dreams or aspirations to work or earn for themselves can never see the positives of this film.
The film starts with the story following the aspirations of a young girl who has a simple aim - to become a pilot.
Of course as she becomes an adult the likelihood of her achieving those dreams become lesser for complex reasons only females would understand.
I won't talk about the movie from here, because my views will be self explanatory. But I will jump to the part of where she experiences work place sexism.
From the loud male gatherings to not letting her be part of lunch groups and of course, the classic jealousy technique - accusing her of being too friendly with the boss who in reality braved to train her to become a good worker/pilot.
There were quite a few parallels with the movie "Hidden Figures", another classic but this movie portrays her problems quite well without looking too cheeky.
I could totally relate to this movie because it is a reality for a lot of women who are working in male dominated industries.
Jahnvi does not emote much because she was not required to emote - she shouldn't be openly crying, laughing but as an airforce pilot keep calm and be determined. She emoted difficult emotions through her eyes which was satisfactory.
Bimbos would call this bad acting ofcourse.
Pankaj Tripathi did his job perfectly as a father, no woman today who is in the workplace is standing without an encouraging father and his role is a testament to all those brave fathers who never differentiated their daughters from sons, real salute to you sir.
The commanding officer especially plays an important role. You always need a strong role model to excel in the workplace and I had always wondered who would have served that for the first FEMALE pilot and behold. Another Braveheart who took the reigns to train a young pilot when others tried to drown her. Kudos to him!
On a personal note, even I had a strong role model at work place. He made me work very hard and treated me equivalent to the other employees. I learnt a lot from him, the reason why I am still in the work sector. He was sexist but that is a personal battle every woman has to fight. Ofcourse ultimately I was accused for excelling only under his shadow which made me leave my first company on a sore note. But I am still working thanks to his guidance.
I will rate Gunjan Saxena 5 for this apt portrayal of a lady pilot and her fight to stay afloat in our misogynistic country.
I would have appreciated if IAF were a bit more graceful in their views about this film. If they do not have workplace sexism doesn't mean other workplaces don't. They should have taken advantage of this and highlighted how well they treated their lady pilots instead of being defensive so that more females are encouraged to join the force.
Ultimately what matters is we serve our country and this movie should encourage all males and females to work hard and serve for their country in a sincere manner.
JAI HIND!
