Difficult subjects dealt with yet the whole movie glows with the possibilities of transformation even at a mature age. A little love and humor go a long way. Loved the intergenerational dynamics. I especially loved the development of his relationship with a cat as a metaphor for his relationship with a wholesome life.

Exquisitely written, this heart wrenching story surprised me at every turn. Against a backdrop of unimaginable suffering during the great depression, two children are lost and found as the adults who investigate their predicament are also redeemed. Drama and redemption make this an unforgettable read.
