10/10 highly recommend. It's such a heart-felt movie that carefully depicts the horror stories of what happened to families during the crack epidemic. So many families were torn and for some the resulting damage persisted to the next generation. Teyana does an amazing job (didn't expect anything less with her being a Harlem native & overall great actress) depicting Inez & the relics of black culture in Harlem during that time! Movie was well written and directed as well - awesome ending!
For people that are upset about the ending. Understand that in reality, we don't always have happy endings. The ending is subjective (open to anyone's interpretation of what may have happened after) but also left us with a positive undertone. It's the perfect set up for a part 2 film if they wanted but also preserves the sense of realism that existed throughout the entire film. If you listen to why Inez lied in the first place, you'd understand why the ending is so beautiful!
P.S. the apartment in the end wasn't mentioned because it was dissolved in gentrification. Crack destroyed neighborhoods & once it was completely destroyed - white investors would swoop in and pour money into these communities... only to flip and appeal to white people. Black people in impoverished neighborhoods weren't always as educated (as you can see in the film) or didn't have access to the resources to fight back against gentrification so it was easy to push them out of their homes, essentially. New Yorkers, especially from Harlem, already know the history but for those confused, watch again & pay close attention to the news stories that you hear in the background & research crack epidemic (Harlem). But I digress.
