In a nutshell a very fine and important play let down by zero direction and clumsy design. The play was staged but not directed in any creative sense of the word although it presents a high level of difficulty and challenge. Hence I felt bored and left out. Kit Harrington continues to grow in stature as an actor and it was plain that he risked his whole self with this character and performance. Other actors were equally strong. Unfortunately for me there were too many weak elements in other performances, with no vocal flexibility or variety of action. Indeed if it was pointed out that their actions were not crystallised or transitive they would simply give a look of incomrehension. I’m amazed that I still took so much from the evening when I only understood about 20%, at best , of the garbled dialogue. Some of the actors need to get back to work on the basics voice and speech and be made aware that they are not being followed around by a camera. And that’s down to the director.
