The biggest mistake Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn made was leaving Project Runway. For all of the touting of the million dollar prize, the production on Making the Cut was cheesy looking and cheap. Also I think that designers should know how to sew—-well.
The judges and judging was questionable — an Internet influencer? Seriously? Naomi Campbell started off as harsh and arrogant, but her critiques were actually spot on and most helpful to the designers. The Heidi/Tim pieces were annoying as hell and a waste of time.
My last criticism is one I’ve had of Klum from the Project Runway days and is even more fitting for MTC — Klum is too biased and pushed her favorites; only Campbell had the guts to take her on and the ‘status quo’ judging that goes for the same ole tired designs. Since this competition emphasized being able to market one’s brand, eliminating Megan from competition is reflective of the fact that people like her are the real face behind other people’s designs, but yet are never worthy enough to be given a chance to be the front face of them.
For all of the so-called diversity when it comes to models, in the designer department it lags shamefully behind. I will stick to Project Runway; Making the Cut cannot make it work for me.
