Everything that the first game has rarely been improved upon in this sequel. Peter feels much weaker and has been replaced by Miles. Miles could only be shown as a "good" character by making everyone worse in their own aspect. MJ's character model has taken a major hit after the first game and can barely be recognized as being the same character in the same universe. Peter's face sometimes looks spectacular and other times looks a plastic Tom Holland. It's ok to make Peter look a lil like the actors from the movies, it's not the first time it's been done but replacing the original face model was huge misstep from the original game that started with the remake. Peter feels incredibly weak and constantly needs saving and largely makes the story fall flat because he seems so much less capable than in the first game. I understand he's under a lot of stress, but he was in the first game and he still pulled through almost without any help besides near the end when he needed some emotional support. If you need to bring one character down to raise your other ones, then the other ones need to be rewritten to stand completely on their own and need to be left out of the story. Miles existence with Peter always makes both character worse, it's makes both look weak because stuff they used to be able to do alone, they now struggle immensely with and creates a disconnect with the rest of what we've seen. Maybe the DLC can rectify some mistakes in the story but with Miles being in the story at all it can never be as good as the original game where he was barely present. MJ as a reporter takes away from her character and original job as a model. MJ as a model works far better for her and Peter's relationship and creates a better dynamic. All in all, the sequel while better to play for the most part in gameplay with a few missteps, and looking better, falls short of the original by large margins in most aspects.
