I thought it moved the timeline along nicely with a solid exposition about how Michael escaped, I enjoyed how many classic characters they brought back but too many of them were just meatheads. Like Tommy Doyle thinking he could take down Michael Myers with a baseball bat. I enjoyed the guts the movie showed when it killed off some of those classic and main characters. In terms of Michael himself I though James Jude Courtney did an amazing job as Michael, he clearly did his homework on the Nick Castle portrayal. The outfit was amazing mainly the mask which already was great in Halloween Returns. Having the character of Michael is one of the greatest tools in all of horror but it's not so much of having that tool as it is about how you use it. They were missing the daytime creep of the original and how much time they spent on Michael stalking and being creepy. In this installment it really just felt like they were following him around and watching him kill people. The gore is another subject matter, I have no complaints about a horror movie with gore but I felt there was too much and it took away from again the creep factor of Michael and sort of just lulled the audience into making it normal. When you come with a big kill with blood and creativity that's fine but they can't be every 10 minutes or the punch won't be as big. I think they handled that much better in Halloween Returns. But all in all an enjoyable movie.
