I love the original Road House, so I was skeptical about this movie from the get-go.
Honestly though, it was a fun time and I thoroughly enjoyed watching it.
(Donnie Darko has definitely grown up!) Jake is a fine actor, always has been, but this is him in his element. He's compelling, has great depth, and of course you can see he worked his ____ off to be at his best physically as this was clearly a dynamic and challenging role. His timing, intensity, and physicality really sold me on the character.
It's well written, well cast, and directed with the subtlety and finesse of someone who's a genuine fan of the original and the genre.
*Connor... is an absolute scene stealer. Move over David Caruso, there's a new tush in town!
